ROSLYN RAMSAY "Apollo Reflections, Jardin Des Tuileries, Paris"

$4,000.00

Acrylic on Canvas

30 x 40

Roslyn Ramsay, Canadian visual artist, born in Toronto, intuitively reflects her fascination with water's transitional elements in expressive brush and palette knife techniques. Her concepts evolve through mixed media, acrylic, watercolour and 3D sculptural work on canvas or wood panel.

As a teenager, she pursued watercolour studies a the Doon School of Fine Arts ( the Homer Watson Gallery ) in Kitchener. Her studies continued through mentorship programs in painting, printmaking, watercolour, and Graphic communications & Design program at Canadore College in North Bay.

An interest in the quantum science, specifically: The Entanglement Theory - that ..."everything in the universe is connected and distance does not destroy that connection" has changed her perceptions of nature and suggests other possibilities beyond our immediate observations. This has influenced her creative process and interpretation of these relationships in nature through the "Interconnecting Worlds" and "Entanglement" series of artworks where the point of view was beneath the water's surface.

Her choice of media in landscape, waterscape and figurative work is varied and she explores coexisting relationships and interactions with nature. Her paintings reflect her living experiences in northern Ontario/Quebec and recent travels to Paris France.

Artist Statement

My paintings reflect a deep connection with nature and originate from my living experiences and a conscious awareness of our coexisting relationship and interconnections to a changing environment. Her digital photography of her surroundings become a starting point and an integral reference to creating new works.

I’m visually inspired by the spontaneous exchange of images that play on the water’s surface and the emerging tangle of colour and abstract shapes beneath. As light passes through water, it is refracted, distorting and obscuring the reflected imagery. This intangible energy of movement and light play a vital role in my creative process.

I intuitively recreate the fragmented imagery and linear trace elements through brush, palette knife or other textural marking tools on canvas in acrylic or watercolour.

I strive to retain this transitional energy in my painting and interpret these qualities through emotive line or brushwork.

I am fascinated by water’s shifting perceptions of observed reality and explore my interpretation of these momentary images.
