"Rebirth", from the ENCHANTED JOURNEYS OF DESIRE series

Created at the Brush Creek Foundation for the Arts residency in Wyoming, this self-portrait signifies shedding of the old skin in order to create space for something new. While the weight of the old self and the future can be heavy and frightening, the spirit becomes lighter as it rises up to the skies.

I was inspired by the floating installation of my co-resident photographer Thomas Jackson and wanted to create my own version of the flowing fabrics on the beautiful rocky hills of Wyoming.

Artist Statement:

Nika Belianina’s poetic photographs capture not just the outer appearances of things, but their inner emotional significance. Through self-portraiture, movement and predominantly in-camera techniques, Nika creates characters full of magic and cinematic mystery. She captures an introspective odyssey, where the settings mirror the internal mindscapes of yearning souls. For her, photography is not just a means of self-expression, it is a call to pause, reflect and to let imagination take you on a journey far and beyond.
