Rebecca van Gennip BIO

BACK TO PAINTINGS

Rebecca van Gennip (b.2001) is a Canadian alla-prima oil painter based in Georgina, Ontario. She completed her Bachelor of Fine Art Honours degree at Queen’s University, with a major in Visual Art and a minor in Art History. Rebecca has sat on the Board of Directors for Union Gallery, including taking part in other festivals and exhibits In Kingston, ranging all the way to the Toronto Outdoor Art Fair and proudly to the Elaine Fleck Gallery. Rebecca specializes in interior scenes and still-life that explore themes of grief, home, and memory. Her newest ongoing series involves introspection of these themes in relation to past generational emotions and how she confronts them.

Dutch seventeenth-century painters inform the connection to her Dutch heritage and the visual style she chooses to convey in her work. Their emotionally charged colour palettes and domestic interiors inspire her to reinvent them in contemporary ways.
