New York City Elevated was shot over four months in early 2002.
In the black and white context of post 9/11 New York City, photographing infrastructure was considered illegal, or at least highly suspicious.
These photographs simultaneously contain two narratives. Photography for the purpose of documenting an existing condition or photography for the purpose of destroying an existing condition.
The photographs in this series seek to transcend these two narratives by presenting a third, which looks beyond the mere everyday infrastructure and places it in an unfamiliar context.
