1/8”  Round Steel Rod

Mechanical Drawing

Although the lines contort to portray tools and machinery of industry, this series pushes beyond the overt syntax to acknowledge the special stature of iron in the development of human creativity. From ancient ochre objects in the Blombos cave, to the blood in our veins, to gravity – iron has been our quiet companion since the beginning. I place myself on this continuum by transforming tools of industry into objects of desire. I see the majesty of a Spitfire, a lathe and other machines as being similar to that of a predator in nature, whom we both admire and display as hunt in our salons. The works use the dimensionality of a steel rod to collapse illustration and sculpture into one.
