Vicky Talwar - Artist Statement
Vicky Talwar is a Canadian-born Visual Fine Artist. With a lifelong passion for painting, Vicky takes inspiration from her south-Asian heritage and the tranquility of the natural world. Having spent many years living in Delhi, India, Vicky fuses spiritual symbols found in many Indian rituals with vibrant flora and expressive colours.
Vicky is inspired by what lies beneath the surface. She experiments with mixed media to unravel hidden layers, creating an illusion of depth. Her paintings are a process of discovery: she begins on an uncharted path with her intuition as a guide, transforming and juxtaposing layers that evolve instinctively, eventually shaping what aspects of the subject remain apparent, and what becomes hidden. It’s this element of surprise – an uncertainty of the final destination - that provokes her intuitive style, an approach that has transformed her as a Visual Artist.
She has exhibited in multiple art galleries in Toronto, New York and California. She has showcased her paintings in juried exhibitions at the Latcham Gallery, Junction Arts Festival in Toronto. She also exhibited in the Fleck Fine Art Spring Catalogue, Distillery District and hosted a solo exhibition at AWOL Gallery in Toronto. Vicky has exhibited in group exhibitions at Caelum and Agora Gallery in New York. Linus Gallery, Las Laguna Gallery and REN Gallery in Los Angeles, California.
Vicky holds a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Ontario College of Art and Design and a Bachelor of Education from York University. She is currently represented by The Elaine Fleck Gallery.
