Photography Basics Series

Workshop 1: CREATIVE DSLR
This class teaches you how to use your DSLR with confidence, You will learn to shoot in manual mode as well as achieve an understanding of all the automatic modes of a camera. You will learn how to use your lens's aperture and camera's shutter creatively. You will learn from a pro how to set your DSLR up for the best color and detail capture.

 

Workshop 2: THE LANGUAGE OF THE PHOTOGRAPHER
In this interactive workshop, Focusing Options, White Balance, and the other important settings that you will use time and time again are fully explained. You will learn how your camera's light meter records light and how to control the way your camera exposes a scene. Lens choices are demonstrated and discussed.

Workshop 3: FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
This class teaches you the basics of flash photography, what each of the important settings are and when to use them. A lot of people feel frustrated and hesitant in using a flash; this class clears things up beautifully.

Workshop 4: COMPOSITION
A brilliant Powerpoint presentation with all the rules, reasons and explanations of composition, presented with classic and contemporary photographs. Your work is then reviewed and critiqued.

Workshop 5: CAPTURING AND DISPLAYING ACCURATE COLOUR
In this workshop I take you step by step through the workflow I use to reproduce faithful, accurate colour. By applying what you learn you will save hours of fiddling with and guessing about the colours you capture. This workflow applies to every aspect of creative photography from portraits to landscapes, from architecture to product photography. You will gain certainty about your ability to capture colour accurately; your confidence will soar. Bring your DSLR Camera.

Workshop 6: OUTDOOR PORTRAIT LIGHTING
A live demonstration on the lighting techniques required to create compelling outdoor portraits. The advantages of the outdoor portraits are they are achieved with minimal lighting equipment and People feel more relaxed outdoors resulting in portraits that are more natural looking.  I demonstrate where to find great light in an outdoor setting. I demonstrate the use of reflectors to bounce light onto your subject. A model is provided and each student will be shooting portraits.

Workshop 7: CREATIVE STUDIO LIGHTING
This workshop demonstrates how to use studio lights and attachments to create the various "styles of lighting" in photography. Each student participates in lighting and photographing still life subjects.

Workshop 8: LANDSCAPES
This workshop is an outing to the Toronto Island to photograph the cityscape of Toronto and other interesting subject matter.

Workshops 9 - 13: ADOBE LIGHTROOM
Learn the best workflow for processing your digital images and how to maximize your image quality. Learn: organizing folders, white balance, levels, cropping, Hue, Saturation, sharpening, black/white conversion, retouching and much, much, more. Everything is laid out in front of you in an elegant, clean interface. In these five, three hour classes, I will guide you through the fundamentals of image processing, you should complete this workshop confident in your ability to adjust and create images you will be proud to display.

Workshop 14: PRINTING PHOTOGRAPHS - THE RIGHT WAY
We start by examining photos, what was done right and what could be improved on. We apply the guidelines of composition, then cropping, colour correction, tone correction and retouching for maximum impact. Next a discussion and inspection of the different paper options. Lastly the printer settings are discussed and demonstrated and each student prints an 11x 17 inch print of a favourite image.
