With the painting Woodland, I merge various idealized representations of the natural world found in home spaces; merging inside and outside worlds. This piece features vintage animal plastic toys, figurines and an old embroidered landscape found in homes and markets in Ontario. I incorporate repetitive home craft in my paintings, textile-based sculptures and performances. The embroidered image used in Woodland features a pretty chalet, adorned with a thatched roof, beside a river with a rowboat. The setting is itself a representation of my own making. This location is on a mid-18th-century replica settler farm located in Ottawaʼs Greenbelt.
