An Unruly History (from Rembrandt-17th. C.)
11.5 x 17.75 inch
Oil on canvas and found wood
A continuation of my Unruly History series. I’ve always been intrigued by historical portraits where the sitter is looking straight at the viewer. I find it’s difficult to look at those works and not take stock of one’s own existence, in terms of our past, present and future. The found wood panels, absent of meaning, both bracket or trap the image in time, leaving the viewer to interpret them for themselves.
