Inger Whist
BA (Hons), AOCAD, MFA Born in Ottawa, Inger Whist has traveled to over 50 countries and has been photographing landscapes panoramically for almost 20 years. Beginning with an early interest in scuba diving and marine biology she once worked as an underwater photographer for the mariculture of the Queen conch shell, Strombus Gigas. An ongoing interest in other cultures and alternative perceptual practices has led to specialist degrees in anthropology and Fine Arts at both the University of Toronto and the Ontario College of Art and Design, and an MFA degree in Documentary Media in its inaugural year from Ryerson University. Inger's work is in public and private collections across Canada and in private collections abroad.
"Whist’s photographs and videos focus on the meditative aspects of water and its hypnotic continuities as a running, streaming, flowing, waving, and patterning element. Using rhythmic fractals akin to mandalas, the artist creates intricate patterns as a means of isolating and sacralizing our most essential resource." (Katy McCormick, MFA)
